MG MGA - Leaking rear shocker

I have an oil leak from a rear shock absorber (arm type). Can anyone tell me where it is likely to be coming from and whether I can replace any seals or similar to rectify it?
Thank you
Mick Morley

Hi Mick. it is likely the shaft seal that is leaking. The seal can likely be replaced, but that wont necessarily stop the leak. The shafts often become worn where the seal contacts the circumference of the shaft. Replacing the seal does not guarantee that the leak will stop. You might try mixing automatic transmission fluid and some transmission sealer about 50/50, and refilling the shock with that mixture. The sealer is designed to swell the seals, and it sometimes stops or slows the leak. If this doesnt work, you will likely need new or rebuilt shocks. Alternately you can modify your car to accept american type tube shocks. Good luck, Glenn
