MG MGA - I've lost my nut!
I am re-building my 1959 MGA and have got to the point where I need to put the heater assembly back in. Unfortunately I can't as I seem to have lost the nut that holds the fan blade assembly onto the fan spindle. The part is listed as 27H602 in the service parts list. The owners club do not list this as a single item. Has anyone got a spare? Garreth

Garreth, Anglo-Parts lists it on page 78, item 38. They call it a "Nut, collet" their part number 161.056. Curiously, Moss shows a picture of it, but does not list it. Unless you want "original" I would imagine that your local purveyor of nuts and bolts could find something to fit- probably considerably cheaper. good luck / gil

Gil, The nut appears to be threaded at one end and a conical un-threaded other end that slips over the splines of the fan blade assembly and tightens it in place, hence why I can't use an oridinary nut. I was considering using a brass exhaust nut that would be softer to fabricate. I'm hoping that someone will take pity on me and offer one off an old unit. Garreth

Garreth, You have given a perfect description of a collet nut. I did not go into Anglo-Parts web site to see how much they want for one=== prices are probably in EU now anyway-- (they used to be in Belgian Francs)- I imagine the taxes and shipping would be more than the nut is worth. good luck / gil

Garreth, Disregard all of the above---- I went into Anglo Parts web site and the nut is NOT AVAILABLE-- however I did discover that it is also used for the same application on the MGB. Which might give you a little wider area to search.... Any MGB's in the local junk yards where you are??? I have seen several in the local junk yards around here, but that is a considerable distance from Kent, UK. Bon chance /gil

Garreth, I'm not sure if the midget used the same type fastener, but I have the old motor/fan assembly out of my car, I'll check tonight and see. It's yours for the shipping if it's the same. I'll let you know.
