MG MGA - Input shaft bearing
Hello again everyone. Well I got the rear extention off of the gearbox finally. Thank for your guidance! Patience definately paid off! I'm not sure why I'm in such a hurry anyway since we are now in the midst of our first snow of the season (6-10" by morning). Everything else has gone smoothly except for removal of the nut that secures the roller bearing to the input shaft. I've got a BIG wrench but can't get a good enough grip on the shaft without fear of damaging it. Any sugestions? I've tried using the clutch disc in a vice to hold the shaft but can't get enough of a grip. Thanks again! John

John, I'm not familiar with this specific operation, but is there any way you can get an impact wrench on this nut? The inertia of the clutch disc and the vice should hold it.

John-- Check your workshop manual. It might be reverse threaded nut. I'd look it up for you but manuals are not at hand right now. In either case, clutch disk is way to go. Get a bigger vise!! Good luck, Paul
