MG MGA - Heat Insulation
I'm looking for a source of foil back insulated underfelt for my 58 roadster. How effective? Where to get it? Dan |

Dan, a good alternative is sold at most home improvement stores as a water heater insulation blanket. J.C. Whitney also sells a similar product, although the price is about twice as much. |

Dan, I highly recommend you give Sleepy Hollow Chimney Supply, ltd, Brentwood, NY a call. Phone: (516) 231-2333. Ask about their ceramic wool insulation, "CiFoil". I used 1/4" material to cover my transmission tunnel and driver's side footboard and floorboard over twelve years ago and it's still doing the job. No heat problem at all. Regards, Marv |

Dan, shops that cater to the hot rod guys will have insulation materials. California Car Cover Co. will also supply by mail order <www.calcarcover.com>. George |

Just an FYI.....I did buy the Lizard Skin insulation product but have not yet applied it to my coupe. Plan to do so this winter. Sure hope it lives up to its claims. Seems like someone else was thinking about this also. Did it work out? Regards, GTF |

I ordered the product from J.C.Whitney. I'll let you all know how good it is when it gets here. BTW I couldn't find anything in Lowes or Home Depot. Dan |

Going to Lowes or HD for our sort of stuff is always iffy. They don't do well on Auto appropriate stuff (they are really more into residential/light commercial stuff ~ little industrial, marine, or specialty stuff) , and also, their inventories vary by region, so that what you find in VT is not always in ID, FL, or NM even tho they are supposedly all one big happy family. Also, keep in mind that just because a product shows up on their internet sites, doesn't mean it is actually on the shelves in the stores. We get a lot of requests for stuff that is on our website that we simply do not have in our store inventory, but which you could buy online. Caveat Emptor. |
