MG MGA - Fuel pump connections
OK, I need help from some of you rocket scientists. My car was largely 'southern engineered' in this area when I got it and tore it down. The outlet and inlet from the fuel pump have a fitting with a male thread. I got my elbow set off backorder from Moss today and it mates up correctly with the fuel pipes. On the other side of the elbow there is a straight, non-threaded area. How does this attach to the pump fittings? I obviously am missing something. I want to put it back like factory -- if one of you knows how that is. Safety fast! JMG

It has been a long time since I put mine in, but I believe there were compression fittings on the pump, and the straight unthreaded portion of the elbow went through the compression nut and sleeve.

I just looked at the moss site, and it shows the elbow as a 3 piece assembly, so it should have come with the compression nut and sleeve. As I recall these were not the same size as standard american compression fittings.

I don't remember Moss selling them separate...I know Vic-Brit does. Onto the straight unthreaded portion of the elbow... you fit the compression nut and then the sleeve. Fit that assembly onto one of the pump's threaded fittings and tighten until the sleeve begins to grip...save final tightening for alignment to your fuel pipes. Many original pipes have had their fittings cut away and one may be left wondering how to attach to a hose now. Many hardware stores sell barb fittings (with a compression ball on the other end) that can be attached using the original piping's compression nut. These are usually missing after having been cut from the original pipe. They are fairly inexpensive...$2 from Vic-Brit (p/n 12-8252).
