MG MGA - Front springs

Hi all.
I started the assembly so I will need some advice from time to time.Chassis is on axle stands.
Rear axle is in place. So next I wanted to assemble the front suspension.Inner pivot shaft in place.A-arms and springpan in place.Swivel assembly mounted in lower trunnion.Front spring in place. And then a jack under the spring pan. After I started jacking the chassis lifted from the stands because there is no engine in the car.
So can anyone give me some advice to get the spring compressed. Is there enough place to use a spring compressor or are there other (safe)tricks.
Thanks,
Herman

Yes

I put 2 or 3 25 litre containers filled with water on the chassis at the front in place of the engine. This allows the suspension to be jacked into place.
same at the rear for attaching the drop straps

I presume you are using a floor jack. You can run a loop of chain under the jack and over the top of the cross member or shock absorber.

I had the same problem. See the attached photo for my solution. Sorry something went wrong with the photo upload. see next posting.

No, the photo is OK after all.

After struggling with bars and clamps of all different sizes, I found a 2" ratchet strap worked like a breeze.

Good luck
