MG MGA - Front overriders

On a recent run with our local MG Owners Club a friend parked his newly restored 1500 Roadster next to mine. There are only two MGAs in our club and both are 1500 Roadsters.
A sharp eyed member, comparing both cars, noticed that the overriders on one car were fitted upside down. As he was an MGB owner he wasn't sure which one was correct, but thought mine may be wrong as it was different from the B parked on the other side. It turned out that mine were on correctly, but it got me wondering why MGA overriders are oriented differently to other models (T-types, midgets, Bs etc.) with the wide part at the top. The owner of the newly restored car also has a B Roadster and had copied the orientation from that.

Some factory engineer's idea of good styling.

I had a similar situation when I got my MGA - the MGB owners all said that mine were upside down - they ribbed me about it for weeks!
