MG MGA - Fix for Twin Cam failure

I read a few years ago in Safety Fast about an interview with an MG factory worker, who explains where the problems with the Twin Cam came from. From what I remember, it was a resonance at about 3,500 rpm and also at 5,500. Fitting Webers solved the problem, though fitting the gasket, or the bolts, for a Weber solved the problem for SU's as well. But in the meantime the factory had given up production.

Does anybody know which issue, year and month, of Safety Fast has that article - I have them all, but can't find it.

Thanks, Denis

Denis,

I don't have the S/F articles, but from what I've read. I don't think the factory ever nailed the problem, so chasing factory info may not be of value these days.

Certainly O ring mouting of the SU's Details from the Yahoo group guys appears to help.

Also the factory recall/change of the distributor may help.

Cheers
Mark.

I was very interested to see, on one of the factory Sebring cars, the beginning of enlightenment. The factory had introduced a layer of rubber between the carb and manifold.

Oh so close to finding the solution!
