MG MGA - Felpro Head Gasket
Does anyone know if Felpro makes a head gasket for a 1500? Any other suggestions as to a high quality head gasket. The standard ones from Moss don't seem to last too long. Could be imperfections in my cylinder head or engine block. What types of head gaskets seem to last the longest? Thanks

Hi Rich. I have had no problems using the Moss motors standard Copper head gaskets. I never use gasket sealer or gasket goo, and have NEVER had head gasket failures or other problems. If yours leaks or blow out, there are likely problems with your engine block or head. Have the cylinder head milled flat. Any warpage will cause problems. Same with the deck surface on the engine block. It also needs to be milled flat. The head studs tend to "pull up" metal from around the circumference of all the stud holes. These metal protrusions can keep the head from sealing properly. To avoid problems, lightly countersink ALL head stud holes before installing the studs and the head gasket. Hope this helps. Glenn

Yes, the current "no name" gasket (if its the white-ish looking one) is very cheap. The darker MGB gasket [payon(sp?)] is visibly superior and will fit a 1500 with no problems. That's what's on my car. Regards, Joe M '56 MGA 1500 Roadster
