MG MGA - Exploded Master Cylinder view
Folks; I am sure this has been covered to death before....... I am looking for a good detailed view of the inside of the MC. I have taken mine apart to rebuild and the contents as taken out, have little resemblance to the pics I do have. (There are crushed washers and other messes - which at least explains the spongy brakes!) I was hoping there was something to show me both the brake and clutch contents - so I could hopefully have all the rebuild parts to put it together correctly! Anywhere you can point me is greatly appreciated! Steve |

Do You have a parts manual. It will show a exploded view. |

The Moss catalogue has an exploded diagram that may give you the detail you need: http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/ViewProducts.aspx?PlateIndexID=29230 Steve |

The Moss catalog picture above should be enough to do the job . Make sure to see part #13 and the note for it. It is the difference between the clutch and brake sides. Good luck with the repair and the learning Randy |

Thanks everyone! Randy; That is the problem. Is the part #13 a small silver "stop sign" shaped item that fits on the end of the spring? I think the DPO had them reversed. On the "other" spring there is a blue small cap. What side (i.e. clutch?) should that spring be used? Finally, in the rebuild kit, there is a solid rubber washer and a very small rubber "cup". I am assuming it goes into the very small blue rubber spring holder? If so, does the "open" side of the cup face into the spring's ble cup, with the flat part facing outwards and ultimately fitting inside the solid rubber washer to become the "valve"? As you can tell by my questions - the detailed view (even in Moss and the manual I have) does not seem to give me the exact locations of the parts. I found that the way the DPO had things was not close to the way the drawings are showing. Silver washers were missing etc. Therefore, its all guess work. Not my way of getting things put together correctly! Any help is greatly appreciated! Steve |

There are good drawings of the assembly in the Worksop Manual Section M, pages M.4 and M.7 that should make everything clear. If you don't have it I could scan it and send it to you. |

Steve, some where in this site you can find a topic called "Tech Sessions" by Mike Ash, which give some good pictorials and very good discriptions of how the brakes go together, etc.... Hopefully someone reading this can give you the exact site locale... Sorry this the extend of my helping you.. Mike |

All the #2s in the Moss picture are parts of the kit. The two pieces labled #2 next to #13 are the only things in the kit that there are one of. They go into the brake bore first with the silver cap thingy following, next to and inside the spring. Nothing preceeds the spring into the clutch bore. Monday morning when I get to work I will open one up if needed. Just ask. Randy |
