MG MGA - Disc brake conversion?

What type of MG brake calipers can be used for a brake conversion on a 1500 MGA?
gerard hutchinson

MGA 1600 disc brake parts are a perfect fit, factory issue. You need to relocate the hose mounting bracket on the frame (cut and weld), and use 1600 hoses and connecting pipes. Find details on my web site, along with information about MGB disc brake conversion (and a few other odd conversions).

You can use MGB or MGA if you can find them. Other parts are required, have a look at the Moss page on this,

Interesting to say the least. I see that Moss have 'cheekily' used my photos to display the parts needed to convert a wire wheel 1500 to discs; and also the process for fitting. They might have asked me first - I would have been quite happy.

This is what I put on my website back in 2003: http://www.mgaroadster.co.uk/mga_1500_disc_brake_conversion.htm

Steve,

Pinching photos like that is not on. They owe you money for that and an acknowledgement. Think how much it would have cost them to hire a photographer for the day. Its certainly worth an email to see what they have to say for themselves.

I found one of my photos on a brochure for a steam railway a couple of years ago, I have no idea where they got it from. I pointed it out and got a grovelling apology and some free tickets. I was told that I could in theory have made them pulp all the leaflets.

Are my eyes deceiving me? I just checked on the Moss (USA) price for the adapter plates and they are listed at $315.95 (£197.46) for the pair. I paid £107 ($171) incl VAT to Moss Europe for the pair in 2003. I only have their 2008 catalogue and even there they are listed at just £139.95 incl VAT for the pair.

You are right Steve - it is a cheek and I agree with Malcolm about letting them know that you know!!

There have been a couple of instances when Moss USA asked me for permission to use a photo of mine (permission generally granted). I have several thousand photos on my web site and haven't seen any such violations by Moss Motors. Looks like someone goofed in Steve's case.

Steve, what would the conversion look like for steel wheels?
gerard hutchinson

Gerard

Ah, you did not mention you were steel wheels. I will look at my diagrams. In the meantime, I am sure there are others out there who have done it and can advise better.

The situation with Moss using my photos is amicably resolved. They apologised and will be amending the PDF.

Steve, is Michael Grant your pseudonym?
Lindsay Sampford

Lindsay

He has been my point of contact. All in hand, That document will be revised shortly. The revision you are probably referring to is 25 October 2010, not 2011. Last digit missed off. He issued an internal instruction to withdraw the document immediately, but I said not necessary on my part; instead amend correctly in a reasonable timescale.

So no freebies then Steve?
