MG MGA - Crankcase ventilation

The front tappet cover on my engine does not have a crankcase vent so the only crankcase ventilation is via the rocker cover to carb pipe. I believe this is causing or exacerbating an oil leak past the felt seal on the timing chain cover and in any case, having read the appropriate part of Barney Gaylard's website, I realise the extra ventilation is needed.

I don't think I'll be able to get a tappet cover with the vent on it so I'll have to make something up. I'm thinking about getting a hose barb with an elbow and thread which I can pass through a hole on the cover and attach with a nut inside the cover. I then plan to push a hose onto the barb - either one the correct shape from Moss or I'll make one up.

I'm wondering if there is enough space inside the cover for a nut (I could braise the fitting to the cover if necessary) and what the internal diameter of the pipe is. I'd welcome any comments too!

It should be Brisbane though at the moment with a chilly Westerly blowing I'm not so sure! I am in contact with the webmaster to try and correct the anomaly!!

Have to say that I was looking up Saskatchewan in an Australian Atlas.

Keith -
Somebody has to have a spare tappet cover.
But if they don't, you could make a vented one. The covers are bowed to the outside so there should be plenty of room for a thin nut on the inside of a barb. Or weld the el to the cover.

Keith,

There's a pair of tappet covers currently listed on ebay (search for item number 160132206639). Also, Scarborough Faire has used ones available in their catalogue.

Keith,

I have one I'll give you.

Anyone know if there is a way to send freight collect from the US?

John,

Thanks very much for your offer. Could you please email me (kdm@ourbrisbane.com) I may have a way to deal with the freight.
