MG MGA - Concours preparation - madness, therapy, exercise

Concours preparation - madness, therapy, exercise or good preventative maintenance?

Before you all start bagging me for being a polisher let me set the record straight - it is our club concours competition on March 30 and we try to get everyone involved regardless of car condition.

I use the concours as my chance to give the car a good clean underneath after 12 months of fun runs, competition events and about 3000 kms - it is quite theraputic laying on your back wiping down all the bits underneath with WD40. I know where all that oil from those leaks goes now - across the diff housing and the front of the petrol tank!

I found cracked retaining clips on the brake pads (took the calipers off to give a quick paint), one nut missing off the exhaust manifold/ pipe flange and realised I still haven't gotten around to fitting the rebound straps.

It would be nice to have a two post hoist rather than ramps, jack and stands. My tip for this job is use throw away latex gloves, powder your hands first to make them easy to fit. Any good tips out there?

Mike, I wholeheartedly agree. Years ago I used to enter the Concours here as an incentive to get my cars back to the best condition possible and still more or less do so but do not have them judged. All of the family used to be involved, even my long-suffering wife who has been dragged around the MG scene off and on for over 50 years!
