MG MGA - Clutch Slave Cylinder Rod

Hi

Just installed the engine and box but when I came to hook up the slave cylinder I found I could not get the rod to fit, it was about 1/2 inch too long. It measures, from clevis pin centre to the end, 3 1/4 inches (82mm). Does anyone have the measurement of one that fits? I suspect it might be a special to compensate for a badly worn throw-out bearing, I have replaced all the bits around the clutch area including the lever bush but I don't want to buy a new rod if it is not necessary. Any thoughts or dimensions.

thanks

Hi

Just spotted one on Ebay, they say it is 69mm, not sure if this is overall length or centre hole to rod end. If this is the case then it is 13mm shorter than mine which makes it perfect. Any thoughts?

Search the archive with 'clutch rod length' 'all of these words' and find posting 'Clutch slave push rod length'

Hi John

Thanks for the tip. I had done the search but ticked this phrase so didn't get an answer. Looks like I need a new rod as the PO must have got this one made. I notice on the picture of a new one the end in the slave cylinder is rounded whereas mine is flat. I'll confine my long rod to the bucket in case I do any damage with it fitted.

thanks
