MG MGA - Carb problem (solved)

I would like to enter myself for numpty of the week.
It's taken me about a week to solve,Newly rebuilt engine and carbs 5 speed box .
The problem, rear carb flooding into the rear pots that bad the motor would only run on two pots but not enough to come out of the overflow/vent
Changed the float needle ok,the levels checked ok removed dash pot to see how much petrol was running turned on the ignition....

The fault, paint blocking the vent/overflow pipe just a small drop on the end but enough to stop air getting out
This may help some one in the future

A few years ago I was reassembling my MGTC dashboard. I inadvertently cross wired the starter cable and the choke cable(pull and twist like the MGA). With all the messing around I had left the car in gear with handbrake off. I lent into the cockpit to check the choke cable operation and the car lept forward in Kangeroo hops out of the garage and down the drive way before impacting family car. Amazingly no damage to either car, bar a bent spotlight bracket.

i had a look at my overflow pipes these are still on the shelf. i brougt them last year at silverstone from some MG club stand. i saw the there was no hole on both pipes from the banjo to the pipe so i can't blow air trough the pipes so are these ment only for decoration or how do they suppose to work ???

Numpty of the year candidate (1991)??

After a loooong restoration of my MGB I was getting it ready for a car show. Fresh engine, fresh paint, new SS exhaust. Not bad for a kid with no money. Or sense.

First, I could not get it to run right. New points, condensor, rotor, cap, plugs, wires and still ran bad. I had by this time became a mini expert at tuning the HIF carbs so those were OK. Must be the dizzy. Ordered a brand new one ($$$) got it, installed it. Same problem. Spent hours on this thing. Which direction does the rotor spin? CCW? Oops! Swapped the #2 and #3 wires and what do you know? Ran great. Hey! I needed a spare dizzy anyway, right?

Excited, I had to go for a test drive. Pulled out of the shop and started cruising and BANG! the hood flipped up and smashed against the windshield frame. Oh yeah, I remembered that I needed to install the hood safety catch and prop rod before I go for a drive.

Needless to say the hood and hinges were beyond repair. I had a GT parts car but the hood was rusted through in the front. I was living in Japan at that time as well and there was no way I could afford a hood, especially during the end of the bubble economy.
I fit the GT hood and used the front 6 inches or so of the original hood and grafted it on to make a good hood.

Didn't make the car show that year. I did make it the following year and won first place, British. That led to the eventual sale of the car at a nice price.

I often wonder where the car is now. I am also tempted to search for it but it's been 15 years or so. Probably time for another restoration.
