MG MGA - brake servo

Just fitted a lockheed brake servo on my mga positioned inside the offside wing as per Barneys example. It works fine and really improves the braking but its a little irregular in coming in when the brake is depressed. Could it be due to flucuating vacuum pressure? I've heard mention of fitting a one way valve to stop the vacuum leaking away - is this the same as the white air control valve assembly already fitted on the servo or is it something different again?

When I intalled my kit, the servo had a one way valve installed in-line on the vaccum line. I do not have the problem you are describing. I believe the information you have from Barney's site is from my installation. Hope you enjoy the power brakes as much as I do. Did you also install a cruise control as you now have vaccum to do it?

Thanks Jeff. The instructions with my Lockheed kit says that the vacuum hose from the servo goes to an in line non-return valve (where fitted) and a petrol U trap. I'm not running with a non return valve and they seem to suggest that its not essential, but I think they are availible, what sort are you using. I also reasoned that the shape of the vacuum hose going over the top of the servo gives a 'U' trap in effect but am not really sure about these matters. The servo works well but is not as smooth as I would like.

I bought my kit from Victoria British in the states. The kit came complete with the non- return valves. I looked in the cataloge and it is item #7-220 and is $29.00. My brakes work great and stops smooth. Since this part is Armstrong, I would guess that you should be able to get it local. Get the part and then enjoy your drive!!!
