MG MGA - Any math wizes out there?

Hi,

I got a 1622 cc engine that's been bored out at 60 over. Anyone know how you would calculate what the new cc would be?

Thanks
Darian Henderson

I reckon that makes it 1687cc or there abouts.

Your bores = 3.060 inches
Stroke = 3.5 inches

Cylinder surface area is 3.1416 (pi) x (3.060/2)squared = 7.35417144 square inches.

Volume per cylinder is 3.5 x 7.35417144 = 25.73960004 cubic inches.

Total volume = 4 x 25.73960004 = 102.9584002 cubic inches.

1 cubic inch = 16.387064 cubic centimetres.

Total metric volume = 102.9584002 x 16.387064 = 1687.185893 cc.

Some people use a slightly different figure for pi so you may get a little variation on my figures.

Thanks a lot Steve. I really appreciate it.

Steve,
Your answer is correct, but you forgot to note in your formula that the area of a circle is (pi)x(radius)squared. Therefore you must divide the diameter of the bore by 2 to get the radius, then square that number, and multiply by 3.1416 (pi). I just calculated my engine dissplacement and it comes out to 1643cc. (My 1622 is bored .020 oversize.)

Ed, he did that. Look again!

Art,
You are right. I guess my eyes are not as good as they used to be, or maybe it's the brain they are attached to. I was looking for the line below the diameter with a 2 under it. I don't know if that is even possable to achieve on a keyboard. My apologys to Steve. When you are right, you are right, and no one can say otherwise. Merry Christmas to all. We are having a wet one here, so the MGA is still in the garage.

Ed

No apologies necessary. I was in dread of putting my head above the parapit, putting my maths in print and suffering a big red cross. I am just relieved that I was somewhere near the mark.

Happy Christmas
