MG MGA - Alternative to original type Flasher Unit

I've had two of the original style units fail - seems quality is not there.

i searched the Archives for a modern replacement but didn't see a specific recommendation. Looking for something from common auto parts shops.

Any subsections? Not worried about looking original at this point.

Ken

Jim Cheetham has squeezed a modern flasher unit into his OEM Lucas can. You could PM him on Autoshrine.

Sorry to disagree about quality, it seems pretty wonderful that the OEM units have survived for 60+ years. Mine still works.

Thanks Bolney - I'm on a trip right now, about 500 miles from home, so I'm looking for a spare for the remainder of the trip. The recent replacement only lasted 500 miles so I put on my only spare. I hope it will last til I get home but have doubts, so something I can pick up at any chain parts store is what I'm hoping to find.

Ken, I've been using this for several years since I put LRDs in the MGA. It's a direct replacement for the resistive flasher. I'm pretty sure I got it from LBC when I bought the LEDs.

J K Chapin

Thanks Jud - I'm still running the std bulbs, so I picked up similar unit from Autozone that should work in a pinch.

Thanks Ken,
you just made me realise that I don't have a spare flasher unit in amongst the collection of spares that I carry in my MGA.
The flasher unit presently fitted was in the car 16 years ago when I first got this MGA, it may well be the original one.
It is working perfectly at present but hopefully, carrying a spare may well encourage it to last at least another 16 years.

Modern LED flashers aren't just for use with LEDs. They will work fine with incandescent bulbs. It's just that they require less current draw to operate.
Lew Palmer

Lew - so the LED unit Jus chose works for incandescent bulbs?
KR Doris

Ken.
Correct. The electronic unit will operate at its correct flashing speed irrespective of the type of bulb load current, whether conventional filament 21W bulbs or light current led bulbs.
