MG MGA - Accelerator Return Spring.
I am trying to fix a sticking thortle on my 1600 Mk 1 - no return spring. I have purchased the anchor bracket (funny shaped one), the spring and small anchor, but can't work out how it all goes together. The parts list shows the bracket going over the lower inlet manifold stud but this will shorly create an air leak unless it is fixed after the carb. Can anyone assist by either a description or photographs. Ah yes then there is the spring on the accelerator which is also missing - I can't work that out either so any assistance appreciated. Thanks Peter |

Peter It fits outside the carb flange. See photo. Steve |

Steve Thanks - that also answers the follow up question as it appeared that the stud was too short but I see that the bracket replaces the flat washer. What is the purpose of the "unicorn" type piece at the top of the bracket? Regards Peter |

It acts as a stop against the carb body to prevent the bracket rotating. Steve |

Steve--I'd like to hire your midget--the one that took the photos. |

JM I was waiting for that comment! However, I was expecting it from Colyn Firth!! It's just an ordinary slim line Sony digital camera that spotlights the target area with a bright light before the final half of the shutter press. The secret is to not to try to look through the viewer!. For each picture that I publish I have probably taken 4 or 5 to get the right view. I also use the magnifying option that allows me to put the lense within about 4" of the subject. I am only an amateur. Anyone can do it. Steve |

Steve, I would replace your fuel bowl seals as they appear perished in the second photo you attached (cracks visible). Regards Mike |

Thanks Mike. You are right. Steve |

There is another return spring also on the cable where it goes through the firewall. This appears to be on later cars only. Peter. |
