MG MGA - 60 spoke Wires....

Not normaly on the MGA thread, but I think someone may be interested...

On behalf of a friend:

I have for sale a set of four MGA / Big Healey 4.5" x 15" 60 spoke wire wheels complete with a set of 155 x 15 matching tyres.

These wheels and tyres have seen very little use (possibly only 2000 miles) and were bought as a spare set for winter use a few years ago. But, of course, the car never ventured out in the winter...!

The condition of these wheels is extremely good with only a little surface rust showing through in odd places on each wheel.

From Moss, these wheels are £97.95 each, that is without tubes, flaps or tyres which I would estimate would be a further £200.00.

I would like a sensible offer for these and hope that the buyer would be able to collect from either York or Knaresborough. I could of course try to get them to MGCC Silverstone, but no promises there as we may come down in a Spridget.

Is this just a slow BBS or is nobody wanting a superb set of wires & tyres....

Not to be impolite, and possibly assist you in selling these wheels but:
buy seeling items usually takes place in the classified section. That being said, your description is "confusing". You bought them as spares for winter but, they have very little use (2000 miles) and yet......they are rusty. You do not mention....how old they are.....if you bought them new or used.....are painted or chrome....are 60 or 48 spokes....have good splines or not....need to be reconditioned or balanced....and what price you would like.

Perhaps a more detailed listing (in the classified section) would bring you better results.I hope this will help you.

Many thanks for your input on this. As I usually post on the midget & Sprite BBS, I am not aware of a different etiquette which applies to other models. If we have something useful that we feel may benefit others we post on the BBS AND list separately as I have for the MGA Wheels...

However, to attempt to answer some of your points, I will try to repeat what is clearly stated above but perhaps in simpler terms:

'ON BEHALF OF A FRIEND'

'I have for sale a set of four MGA / Big Healey 4.5" x 15" "60 SPOKE" wire wheels complete with a set of 155 x 15 matching tyres.'

'The condition of these wheels is extremely good with only a little surface rust showing through in odd places on each wheel.'

Surely Gordon, if a set of wheels have only covered apprx 2000 miles, they must have been new or at least nearly new when bought by my friend. In fact they were new.

I don't know how old they are in terms of years, I'm sorry.

In general here in the UK, Wire Wheels are painted and not chrome, however there are cars with Chrome Wire Wheels but if that were the case, I would have mentioned Chrome in their description.

Back to the New or used question... 2000 miles from new would not constitute worn out splines, in fact they are perfect.

I am looking for Offers and have given a clue to their new price which was over 600.00, again a clue to how they were when bought... NEW.

What would YOU expect to pay for them.....50%, 60% 75% 80%....?

we are generally polite and not sarcastic in this forum. Biting Gordon's head off is not very nice when he's trying to be helpful.

A polite reply to Gordon's sarcastic comments is precisely how I intended.

Mr.Boldry,
Have a pleasant day and good luck with your sale. Gordon

Mark, I'm not sure that you meant to put up that link.

is probably the one you intended.

Personally I didn't mind about the initial post - I just ignored it as I'm not looking for new wheels. I think that the follow up was unnecessary.
