MG MGA - $53K MGA 1600 on BAT

Just off a full restoration, this 1960 coupe ended up going for US $53,500 on a Bring A Trailer auction yesterday:

Wow, that's £43,000! for a coupe.

Makes you wonder how much our roadsters are worth.

At this rate, by the time I need to sell my MGA, I may actually break even with the amount of money I have spent on it over the years.

But I doubt it! :^)

Try selling a car in Australia for that sort of money. My recent restoration, which is now virtually a brand new car (1600 with 18V engine), has been for sale for months, and very little interest. Price is Aust$75K, which is GBP39K and US$49K. Anyone overseas should look for bargains here in Oz!

A Matthewsons Auction (of Bangers and Cash fame) in April this year couldn't even get to £18,000 reserve on a low average red roadster. I think the bidding got up to £16K. I did speak to them about 5 months ago and they were saying £22 to 24K ish for a good runner. The next generation is now into fast Fords and other 70s classics. Our type of car it seems has peaked; just left with us oldies and our memories.

I suspect you are correct Steve,
in my case I think financially, my MGA is going to be a total loss.

My daughter and son-in-law just love the car, they love driving it and their daughter (my granddaughter) also loves it.

So it looks like it is going to head their way after I am gone.
But I would definitely prefer that, knowing that they may get some fun from it.

I only hope that they can still get petrol to run it when that time comes.

There is also the direct connection between my MGA and my daughter, working on that car for so many years, I have cut myself so many times that if it was swabbed for DNA, it would prove to be a direct relative of hers! :^)
