MG MGA - 3 Main Rear Seal to MGB Seal Conversion
| The rear main seal of my three bearing 1800 engine has developed an annoying oil leak. I think it is time to do the conversion to the MGB rubber sealas dscribed on Barney Gaylord's web site. Before I entrust the rear plate to a local machine shop, does anyone know of a source for the machined/modified rear engine plates? And those of you that have done this conversion...was it worth the effort? |

| I modified my engine myself a couple of years ago, I have only just read the Barney Gaylord mod, My own conversion was very similar, I made a new backplate out of 10mm aluminium, which was machined to accept an oil seal ( made as a one off ), I had a shallow cup made to fit over the crank, this involved machining a spare flywheel. I didn't want to modify/ruin the crank. Unfortunatly it still leaks! I think this may be down to the oil seal, the seal on BG's website looks more substantial than mine. I'll have to have another go one day |
