MG MGA - 2 new noises to diagnose

The first is in the back end. While under power there is a steady noise coming from differential that would be described as a steady SCHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. It appears at about 30mph and is steady while I am applying power, if I take my foot off the gas it can become somewhat intermittent. Now here's the thing: if I take the car out of gear while moving at speed the sound disappears. I'm guessing this has something to do with some bearing that is connected to the propeller shaft. Thoughts?

Next one is from the engine. While giving strong gas in third and forth gear the engine is making a GHHHTTKKTTKKTTKKTTKK noise. Any thoughts on that one? BTW I just changed the spark plugs to NGK's with a .035 gap.

Thanks,

TM

Tysen,
As a guess, I would look at the fluid level in the differential. Your description on the engine is difficult, but it sounds as if it could be pinging. Did it do this withthe old plugs? You may want to put them back in and check. Insure your fuel is high enough octane.

...and timing not too far advanced or fuel too lean.

Tysen- I think that you will find that the pinion bearings are bad- if it makes noise all the time it would be an axle bearing.
