MG MGA - 1500 disc brake conversion
I'm just in the process of installing MGB kingpins and disc brakes in the formerly drum brake 1500. Does any one know if I should remove the small rubber valve inside the master cylinder which restricts the flowback of brake fluid necessary in a front brake drum equipped MGA ? I'm wondering if it will cause the disc brakes to drag somewhat. Thanks Al

My '56 has MGA disc brakes on it. The m/cyl is standard config, however, one thing I've always noted is the brass 3 way fitting at rear axle is different p/n. Could it have different restriction?? Regards to anyone who knows! JoeM '56 MGA 1500 roadster

Al, 1958-1962 Spridgets used the exact same 7/8" master cylinder with what I believe is the same restrictor in it. These cars have 4 wheel drum. Spridgets with the small bore master cylinder of 1962 to 1966, when they went to discs on the front have this in them as well.. Except for the diameter, the master cylinder is the same. Remove for disc brakes? I dont believe there is any reason to. -BMC.

Al, I have two seasons on a converted "B" front end with the check valve still in place with no problems. Jim

Thanks all. I'll leave it in place and monitor the brakes for dragging. Al
