MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZS180 clutch pedal sticking to floor

The clutch pedal on my zs180 stays on the floor when I am reversing up an incline or occasionaly in first going down a slight incline. This is accompanied by the car locking in gear.

If I turn the engine of an gently pull the pedel it pops back up.

I have looked to see if anything is fowling the pedal but all is clear.

The AA & Rover have looked at it and said its fine but its obviously not. The problem is the fault is intermittent and never happens when they are looking at it.

Any ideas

mmm... master cylinder? Some of the earlier cars , including mine have experianced Master and slave failure with similer results
