MG ZR ZS ZT Technical - ZS 180 - anything i should keep an eye on?
OK, so i have has the ZS for coming up to a week and i was wondering if there are any common 'niggles' that i should be looking for (can you tell that i have an MGF?) ;-) On the 'warrantee list' so far is the following... Scratch in leather central seat panel (the car is an ex-demo). Front numberplate is de-laminating. 3 minor stone chips in windscreen (passenger side, will probably ignore these as they are tiny). Rear bumper, o/s below light cluster - large panel gap Metal spring bars for the boot lid on the underside of the parcel shelf have popped out of thier central retaining clip (will probably ignore this too as the worst it can do is cause a rattle). The only concerning one IMO is the panel gap, although i have been told that they are all like this, something to do with the exhaust being on this side (smells a bit like cow excrement to me, so i am asking the question...) Your car is probably mostly out of the running-in period, but KV6s have a reputation of drinking oil in their first couple of thousand miles - so definitely worth keeping an eye on yours until you get a 'feel' for how your engine uses oil :o) |

SF@work, did you get my email re Duxford? Yes keep an eye on oil levels. Im on 24k, a Y plated car, one of the first 1000 cars to be built, no major probs!! Kelvin |

When did you send it Kelvin? Email address is >> AP1000000@aol.com <<, can you send it again, just to make sure. Andrew (SF) |

Not a Scarlet Fever i hope Kelvin? ;-) Get well soon mate. SF N926 FEV - MGF 1.8i (wrecked) :-( EF52 DXY - ZS 180 (new!) :-) |

Scarlet, ref that boot spring issue you mention, another similar problem is the metal retaining bracket on the passenger side has known to deform and release the spring under tension, which not only stops the boot staying up but more annoyingly makes opening the boot with the key almost impossible. Its worth popping a cable tie over the open end of the bracket to stop it opening up in the first place. Panel gap on OS rear bumper is a commen problem, poorly designed fixing, flaps around like Nora Battys stockings. |

Mickeyboy, Will add the cable tie, thanx for the tip. Checked the oil level on Saturday, is that a poxy dipstick or what? Who's bright idea was it to make the graduated part of the stick oil coloured? Honestly i despair sometimes... :-( I might have to get some heat/oil resistant paint from somewhere... Apparently Scarlet new dipsticks now fitted, with a more suitable colour!! Kelvin |

How about making sure that the lead on the starter motor is tightened? I stopped to fill up with petrol Tuesday night and was unable to restart the car afterwards. I thought that the alarm system had failed to disarm, so I called out the AA (second time since I bought the car in October). It turned out that there was no power to the starter motor. At least its not as bad as the F. On that the fuel pump outlet union came undone... Ralph |

Good point David :-) SF N926 FEV MGF (wreck) :-( EF52 DXY ZS 180 (new) :-) |

Well, we've only got a 120, and it is *so* easy to speed in if you're used to the F. It creeps up to speeding speeds but only makes as much noise as the F's electric windows! |

Yep, it's entirely too civilised :-) I think it needs a filter just to remind me of how fast i am going! :-) SF N926 FEV - MGF (wreck) :-( EF52 DXY - ZS 180 (new) :-) |
