MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Worn rubber in mirror

Morning all :)

My midget tries to be more aerodynamic, but it is kind of unsafe : she likes to bring back the right rear view mirror as close as possible to the door frame...
I made a quick diagnostic : I would guess the rubber between the glass and the door bracket should be octagonal on the bracket side, but mine looks worn and not octogonal at all... Can turn freely on the nut.

Any idea to fix it, without having to buy a new mirror ? I have the Tex fitted on the 1972 cars

Thanks !

Cedric,
if you have the charm, courtesy and good looks I possess then you might contact Tex and they might give you advice and even pop the required part(s) in the post to you as a goodwill gesture. Of course I realise not everyone can be as blessed as I.

A bit radical and permanent solution, Araldite it in place - first making sure it's set up correctly for you :)

The adjustment is from the clamping plate being, er, clamped with the two screws on to the part what Cedric done broke.

Cedric,
when you reassemble don't have the clamping plate too tight and lubricate with GT85 (not WD40 spray). You might also be able to use GT85 to get the broken part out. -

Unfortunately GT85 is now one of the many companies the WD-40 Company owns (and an indirect link to Silverstone circuit). -

You must realise more and more how lucky you are to be in the UK. :)

Nigel Atkins

Hi Nigel,
Didn't think of sending them an email : good idea and nothing to loose ! Just did it, keep you inform

If no, I might go to Jeremy idea : just glue it :) Everything else is in good condition...
I went to Aradlite web site : any glue you would recommend, or other than this one ?

I already bought GT85, someone recommended me to, can't remember who... ;)

They probably recommended PlusGas too (although I am disappointed in the propellent of the present spray can, good job I still have a gravity-drip can from the previous manufacturers).
