You may ned to consider having the flywheel drilled and tapped to allow a larger clutch assembly to be fitted, but I think you ought to wait until your man has finished investigating If you need to send abroad this is a link to Peter May who does lots of superb re-engineering for high power to the road/track applications in the UK There's enough stuff in Peter's catalogue to make me weep But there should be enough ideas there for an engineer to think about worked for me a few times HTH |

Peter May do tons of stuff which is suitable for high power, I'm just not sure on compatibility with type 9s. I have the very nice steel flywheel http://www.petermayengineering.co.uk/specialistProducts.htm#7.58.1 And the 7.5" clutch.... which is rather strong! Although it does eat your release bearing if you don't get the pushrod length right! |

It would appear the BBS ate the PM link this morning when it reverted my "sign in" to the base standard one (again) Or maybe I just forgot... However here is a link for the people that claim to have pioneered fitting type 9s to Spridgets, they used to modify the bell housings off "A series" boxes until they had the castings made. The Morris Minor Centre in Oldbury http://www.morrisminor.co.uk/index.htm and contrary to remarks I have frequently made about other Oldbury based AH and mg spares dealers I really do rate these guys Very helpful and it would surprise me greatly if the chap in the States isnt checking this clutch issue out with them as we read! Basically though, have the flywheel drilled for 7½" clutch and a larger choice of covers becomes possible I believe I still sort of wonder if Prop isnt going to be right though, on the other thread, is the driven plate the right way round? If wrong there may be a chance of the metal boss in the driven plate stopping the pressure plate closing it right down... |

I called Quantum as I was installing it so I could verify the correct orientation. I think the stock-type clutch can hold the power, after-all, I was able to break the ribcase with a stock clutch, and it wasnt slipping at all. |

Bill, The Morris Minor Centre Birmingham did indeed pioneer the Ford T9 (Sierra etc) gearbox into the Sprite/midget. The owner's car was the very first car to have this conversion. All of the bellhousings for this conversion, irrespective of who sells them, comes from or under licence from the Morris Minor Centre Birmingham. |

Thanks for confirming that Daniel As I said I have no hesitation in recommending them and their products, they know their subject and have "made their own tee shirts"* and were able to sell me all I asked for off the shelf. And even though they sell the "Full Monte kit" they were just as happy to sell the bits I needed to allow me some time and fun tinkering I love a bit of tinkering... *no, not real teeshirts! |
