MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Wheelarch Tweaking

Tweaking wheelarches to fit 185/60R14s - anybody have photographs of the finished item?
Marko

you mean push out square wheelarches?
I have 175-65-14 0n my 75 midget and had to push out my wheel arches because of the tyre roll/movement on the wheel.
The axle is hold on its place by an RTL(mumfortlink).

Diffecult to see on the image but the arch is pushed out 2/2,5 cm.

Mine's round arch - looking at it and the width of the 185/60R14s I thought I'd have to have the arches modified. Perhaps not?

185/60/13 is a common size in competition circles with decent tyres available ie yoko's. They give plenty of grip and nice balance. They are a close fit and may rub slightly if pushed hard,a panhard rod should sort that out. Mine fitted inside the square arches with a bit if persuading!! I think I used a large hammer! Oh and I folded over the flange.

Carl, youll bring this midget to Gaydon wouldnt you?
Some very intresting stuff on it like the front wheel arches and sidepanel ventilation-very nice job!

Marko, i think your safe with roundwheel arches.
Like Carl said use a axle locator anyway.

Those photos of my car where taken 15 years ago ! I,m afraid she doesn't look quite so good at the moment and will require quit a bit of welding for the next MOT. I don,t know what happened but I think it might have something to do with the 10 and 13 year old boys that have appeared in my house. I am working on another Midget at the moment and when that one is done the green car will get a well earned restoration.

Cheers Carl

wow carl it certainly looks a different beast to what is now I am sure one day it will be back to that way.. P.S That fuel tank has more holes than the hull of the bismark but probably not as big !!!!!!!!
IAN Pickering (68 Midget) Getting There!!!!

13x5.5 seems common, would prefer 14x6 for looks/messing with brakes in future though. 15x6 (and 205/50R15) is almost tempting too...

Was going off the Yoko charts:

Having a bit of a measure it seems like there's just about 8.5" to play with on the read if I fold over the arch lip, 8" without.

What offsets do people run on the 13/14" rims?
