MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Wheel studs

Hi
Sorry to raise this as a new thread again
I need longer studs for my 76 midget. I've looked but can find a definitive answer for the standard length for both front and rear - If someone could confirm this it would be much appreciated

35mm think
Looks the next longest length available is 50mm so this is what I've gone with.
The car in question has Minator "minilite" style wheels installed using the original Rostyle type chrome plated tube nuts.
My personal preference is for simple open type nuts so I set about changing them.
In doing so i noticed that on installing the open nuts the studs were about 5mm short of emerging from the nut, overall about 10mm shorter than ideally required.
From further investigation I noted that the original nuts dont actually fit that well with the Minators.
Although the original nuts have a 60 degree (ish) taper they are narrower and fit further into the taper on the wheel- they dont seat properly and can be rattled around. You would only really appreciate this when dropping a nut into the wheel with the wheel off the car and seeing how it sits
When installing the wheel and nut onto the car its not really noticeable.
In summary - there is lot of threads saying the original nuts are suitable for aftermarket alloys - but strictly speaking i don't think this is the case.
I sure this has all been covered before by this with the knowledge - but just thought id add it anyway.

Not sure but longer studs may be available from Mini parts suppliers for use when wheels spacers are required as I believe the stud heads/splines are the same as Spridgets.

When I fitted Minators, I fitted rear wheel studs to the front hubs and fitted Mini studs to the rear hubs. I think they were Mini Cooper studs, but don’t remember exactly, as it was a long time ago.

50mm studs worked out just right on the rear wheels when a 5mm spacer is fitted.
The spacer is to bring the wheel out flush with the arch - even with 185 /70 tyres there is plenty of spring clearance without the spacer.
Fitting was a bit more hassle than first anticipated as there is enough clearance to the back plate to knock the studs out without even having to remove the brake shoes - but to get the longer studs in you have to remove the hub.
Couple of lessons learnt - best to remove the studs after you try to pull the hub for two reasons - firstly you need the studs to fit the hub puller (!), and secondly its much better to support the hub in the vice when bashing on the studs, rather than attack them when the hub is still on the car with the risk of distorting something trying to knock the studs out.
Onto the fronts now..
Finally - anyone running Minator type wheels with the standard rostyle nuts - have a proper look, whilst the arrangement appears ok, the nuts dont seat properly in the wheel and the correct nuts will need longer studs.

(ive no idea why the image gets rotated when its uploaded!!)
