MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Track Rod Ends

Once again I am looking for TRE's with decent rubber. Is it possible to buy and fit the rubber covers only as a replacement? If so, from where is best?

You can get replacement track rod end boots: http://www.leacyclassics.com/parts/austin-healey/healey-sprite/steering/7h3762.html

(Also available from: https://mgbhive.co.uk/product/7-midget-track-rod-end-rubber-gaiter-7h3762/

I bought standard ones of these to replace rubber parts that had perished on new track rod ends that had only been fitted a few years on a project car that had not been outside!

In the old days of better quality parts I would have said just get new track rod ends, but I have found difficulty in locating good ones including the rubber boots.

Anyone found good quality TREs recently?

Anyone tried the uprated boot from ESM: https://www.morrisminorspares.com/steering-c92/steering-all-c93/track-rod-tie-rod-end-rubber-dust-seal-mmc-branded-p1238269 ?

The rubber boots on my new track rod ends perished and split within 6 months of fitting even though the car had sat in the garage throughout as the restoration continued.

I bought uprated version from ESM Morris Minors that Mike linked to above. They are fitted and show no signs of deterioration so far but then they havent been anywhere yet!

Thanks all. Looks like my TRE's are better than some as they have been on the car for nearly 18 months, although with very little use.
I have ordered some new seals from ESM, the uprated ones. My faith must be failing as I have ordered 4 off!

The problem with ordering four is that the spares may have degraded by the time you need them.

You are right of course, I did think of that!
On the other hand I don't know how many I will use to get 2 fitted correctly. Maybe I ought to research best practise for storage of rubber components.

wipe your rubbers inside and out with hand cream.
I got my last TRE's from Peter May: holding up so far!

Bought new TREs from ebay about 3 months ago, said to be for Lotus something... They lasted approx. 1 month. I will try the "refurb solution" now as shown by others, as long as the TREs feel alright

I will give both my rubbers that I use and the spares the hand cream treatment and hope that I never have to buy anymore!
