MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Rummble/Vibration

I have 76, 1500 midget. The engine and gearbox were rebuilt 2 1/2 years ago. A rummbling vibration sound has recently ocurred. It appears or is more noticeable in 4th gear between 30 - 40 mph under load. If you ease off or accellerate it tends to go. Recently I have noticed that when changing down, the car/engine feels 'juddery'
The noise sounds like it's coming from underneath, midway along the car.
Any clues?
Nigel Axtell

Sounds like prop shaft UJ. Drop the shaft out, if its knackered it will be quite obvious.
R Fowler

I'm with Mr. Fowler, but you'll want to check the forward engine mounts as well. They're not all that strong in the 1500 - I had one collapse once, allowing the engine to sag against the steel part of the RH mount and send a very noticeable rumble and shudder through the car.

Best of luck,
