MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Rubber bungs for floor panels

I have dried the car out, rubbed down and painted but can not find the rubber bungs/seals for the floor panels in any dealer books so far. Any ideas?
Cheers Dave

Dave. Try Moss Europe's online catalogue. Click on midget early, then Body, then Structure, and you should find bungs and grommets. Hope that's what you're looking for.

Bernie - thanks for that - I was going round in circles..BUT....... I can't see the ones that go in the floor panel either side of the main cross member - any clues?

Dave,

Do you mean the rectangular ones - two in the front of the inner cills and two in the front of the floor pan giving access to the triangular footwell siffener panels - if so I believe these are 4G6957

I know it was wet to and fro M50 but the summers nearly over now LOL.

Can offer a good line in bilge pumps if that helps !

No Richard it was not that bad - just! They are/were round ones about 10 mm in diameter. It could be a PO odf course!! will get photo up on here ASAP

You can buy packets of assorted grommets and also blanking plugs from some car spares shops or motor factors.
I got some, but for the life of me can't remember from where.

i got some bungs from Moss that were like little rubber traffic cones. Somebody had drilled holes in my floor panels for seat runners and a spot of silicone combined with the Moss bungs worked a treat.
Jamie Watt

As promised here is a photo of one of the holes - measured at 5/8" so the bungs must fit. It seems strange to have had them in the first place - any reason why?

Dave Price

It's not a PO mod Dave. Mine's got them and I bought it many years ago in original condition. I would think they're there to drain any water out that may get in. You know what our cars are like. LOL.

Electrical component wholesalers sell rubber and plastic blanking plugs that fit. And most probably a lot cheaper than buying them singly from Moss etc.
Guy

And that's how the water usually gets in, when the bung isn't there! (Don't ask how I know ... oops!)

Plastic blanking grommets for body holes come in sizes 3/8 to 1" in 1/8" increments, except for 7/8" which I haven't seen. Part no is CFP<size> The size notation is thou. Thus CFP375 is 3/8, CFP500 is 1/2" etc.

There is also a larger plug of about 1.5" or 1.75" under a BHA part no.

And there is a range of rubber blanking plugs, part no generally starting with either RFN or RFR. They used to have a similarly simple size-related numbering system and although the bones of it can still be recognised it has been stuffed up by numerous supercessions, so it's simplest to scroll through RFR and RFN until finding the one required.

It had bungs in but most were very solid. Why put a hole in to let out water and then put a bung in it to keep it out/in? With carpets fitted a lot of water would sit there before deciding to leave the confines of the cockpit.
Dave Price

most blanking grommets are metric

5/8” = 15.875 mm

so either 16mm (or 5/8” required)

They might be metric from general merchants, but the original part no's used proper numbers and these are what most parts supplier use. The grommets themselves of course may well be metric and labelled near enough as often happens.
