MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Respray with fibreglass wings

I am in the process of prepping my 1500 midget for a full respray and I am needing to replace the front wings, however I was looking at the fibreglass wings as they are cheaper. I was wondering if this will give me any problems when I come to paint them and how I should prep them and what is the best type of paint for them. Or would it be easier to find some metal wings in good condition and spray them instead?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You can see the progress of my project at my website mg-midget-parts.com any comments would be very welcome!

the look of FG wings is somewhat diffrent from steel.
they just are not as smooth as steel and if you get the as smooth they tend to "sag"
if you have a racer weight is important looks are less go FG
if it is a nice road car go steel

I have an f/g front end, just prepped for paint. Best thing for f/g I think is to give it a good coat of 2 pack primer, then leave for a few weeks for it to settle, then flat off. Even do the same again if you have time. I don't see why it should sag if this is done, the paint will take up any imperfections.
My first f/g front end wasn't done this good, and didn't look very flat. This new one will be spot on tho. I suppose if you put plenty top coat on, if it settles any more in 12 months, it can be wet sanded again to get it flat.

Fibreglass doesn't have to look too rippley does it?

mine cost me about £60 a pair from Honeybourne Mouldings

A little (not much) work with Holts Metallic Filler and a few sheets of abrasive papers later and it took Cellulose paint perfectly (about fifteen years ago)

Now the bonnet, thats another tale...
