MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Replacement hood (rag top)

I'm getting close to replacing the hood (rag top) on our midget and Car Hoods of Birmingham (UK)seem to offer a good deal compared to others.

Does anyone have any comments on the supplier or their vinyl product please?

No experience with the supplier but their website doesn't list the Midget :

MGB
MGC
MGF
mgtf
MGR V8

I too will be changing the hood in the near future and my current choice is Don Trimming, who offer a good choice of materials and I've seen nothing but favourable feedback about their stuff :

Let me know how you get on if you do get something from Car Hoods, it'll be interesting to feedback.

I put a Prestige hood on my '78 last year, and have been completely satisfied with the thing. It looks terrific, and fits perfectly. The zipper window is a great option, by the way.

Just my opinion/ experience,

I'm on my 2nd hood from the MGOC (prestige hoods) and it has also failed where the plastic is heat welded on to the fabric- (double duck??)this 2nd hood is only 18 months old. The first hood only lasted 6 months!

Neither hood was/is too tight, it is folded correctly never stored away wet etc. etc.

Basically where the vybak is heat welded on to the fabric is looks as though it get too hot during the manufacturing process and then becomes thin, result after some time it cracks/ fails.

I have actually been speaking to various different suppliers of hoods and what I have found out is there are small subtle manufacturing differences, 1 supplier I had been speaking to still stiches the vybak into the fabric and tbh I think this is how the hood would have been made originally and the heat welding process has become a cheaper way of making hoods and possibly resulting in lower quality.

My advice would be ask lots of questions about how the hoods are made but don hoods seem to be getting a good name.

Best of luck
