MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Rear brake shoe fitting

Hi

Any tips please on replacing rear brake shoes in a Frogeye? (these have single wheel cylinder).

It has been 30 years since I fitted a pair of brake shoes into a BL vehicle (front and rear drums on Minis) and I am a bit rusty, but stil have a handy SP tool for moving the shoes. And these never had the beehive springs!

Cheers

The shoes are straightforward to fit and in my view slightly easier than the later midget/mini ones. Depending on how often the car is used the piston in the cylinder can stick so check its moving freely. I get a lovely assistant! to gently press the brake pedal with the drum off to make sure the brake shoe moves

The 'beehives' can be a bit tricky to hook on and off. I push the cylinder up or down so the bracket in the backplate is easier to see behind the shoe. It can also help to fully turn up the micram adjuster to again expose the bracket more clearly.

Don't forget to check the adjustment once the drum is back on and the pedal has been pumped a few times.
