MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Radiators, eh?
| Just need to have a rant after fighting against an aftermarket radiator... The original one from 1966 finally given way; more Thomas the Tank Engine than MG midget...beyond any more repairs I bought one. Four holes in the Abingdon body shell. Four holes in the rad. You know where this is going. Just more dodgy parts.. |

| Don't get me started. Years ago I sent one back to Moss because it was lozenged. No way the holes would line up. Then more recently I gave up recoring it yet again and bit the bullet for an aluminium one. I went through 4 suppliers and ended up having one made to order. I started by trying one of the cheap Chinese ones on eBay. It was at least 1.5 cm too thick. I don't know what car it would fit but it certainly wasn't any kind of Sprite or Midget. I even tried a very well known and expensive supplier of Austin Healey parts, and their product turned out to be a rebadged cheap Chinese one. |

| I replaced my vertical flow radiator 11 years ago as it was leaking and beyond repair. The new one came from the now-defunct Welsh MG Centre. I've no idea where it was made but it did the job re. cooling and still is despite an occasional weep from the header tank joint.
It does, however, have mixed threads: two UNF and two metric. Re-fitting it is a real swine, especially getting the screws into the not-very-captive nuts. I've only ever managed to get three out of the four screws in place - but that might be down to my Sprite rather than the radiator. I've only ever used distilled water and anti-freeze, and I consider it to be hot if the gauge reaches N so no plans to change it. Colin |

| Colin I didn’t know Welsh MG was no more. How long has that been the case? |

| Me neither. Seems it closed roundabout Christmas 2024 according to Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/1109677552409214/posts/9147952888581600/ Must have bought about 80% of the parts, including having the engine reconditioned, from them. |

| I think they must have shut the physical shop/centre in Wrexham at the end of 2024. It lingered on online via Ebay but seems to have finally disappeared and ceased trading earlier this year. C |
