MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Polybushes Vs Others

Just about to rebuild my front suspension , I am going to replace the lwr inner bush and top bushes with Polybushes . Are Polybushes the only make with Stainless sleeves? or does it not really matter what make I use . And are any poly bushes black , why do they come in such lurid colours?

Any personal recommendations ? Or should I just stick with OE parts?

Thanks Roy

Differant colors = differant stiffiness of the bushing....the stiffer the bush the harsher the ride

Polys do come in black... not sure how harsh and stiff they are

I cant offer any insight into what bushes have what inside cores

But im NOT a fan of rubber bushing...they dont last very long...a few years at best...if the car is concourse and dosnt see much drive time, then the rubber is fine, but for the work involved tearing apart the suspension to install....its a no brainer for me...poly all the way

Just my 1.5 cents

with the quality of many modern made rubber parts I'd not risk them (some parts you're lucky if they last a few months) so personally unless the parts were old NOS I wouldn't

I've used full front and rear sets of the yellow fast road ones from MGOC Spares and they were fine but not as good or to my preference, driving style or car use and set up as the Super-Flex sets I now have fitted

if you're worried about the admittedly bright colours then just let your car pick up the normal use road muck

I could put up a photo showing the Super-Flex fitted to my car but you wont really see what colour they are and (I was surprised to see they're not the colour I thought/remembered they were)

We are soon to be selling midget Superflex poly bush kits which will be black or dark blue with stainless sleeves where appropriate. I'm pushing for 'all black' production and hope to demo these at the NEC in a fortnights time.
Colours used to denote shore ratings but not really anymore. You will find ,especially on the Midget and Minor(basically the same units)that the bushes were designed undersized for the vehicles weight, many other like sized vehicles has almost double the diameter bushes. In hard worked areas this will require the poly bushes to be produced to a higher shore rating than expected, especially on the 'sports' versions.

I fitted the yellow MGOC ones and then removed them as I value my teeth. Just felt they were too harsh. Put rubber ones back.
But then I treat my car as a "tourer" rather than pushing it to the limit on corners. I suspect for those who want to push it a bit, the polybushes would improve handling (but at the expense of ride comfort).

different cars different set ups - I didn't find the yellow ones over-hard and the Super-Flex ones still give a comfortable ride to me in my car

what has made the ride noticeably harsher was my unfortunate choice of new tyres going for those fitted to smaller modern saloons rather than the previous more sports style tyres which gave a more comfortable ride

I've had to drop the damper settings and tyre pressures to get the ride more comfortable with the tyres being the only difference

the suspension system is many parts and components working together with the importance of the tyres (to the braking, steering, handling and ride comfort and noise) often forgotten

Looks like I will placing an order with JLH. Black polybushes with stainless sleeves.. That's what I want!

R McKnight, tried to get black bushes but dark blue are the only colour available at the moment, maybe in the new year !

Dark blue are good , Better than yellow /orange / red / purple ..Delete as reqd

Are they in stock ?

New batch in today, but not had time to photograph them and add to the website.
