Hmmm... how about picking up a copy of Daniel Stapleton's book?

Front dampening see AVo here - http://www.mgocaccessories.co.uk/acatalog/MGOC_Accessories__Front_suspension_31.html

Word of warning - if you want a warranty then buy from somewhere like the MGOC

General stuff see http://www.mgocaccessories.co.uk/acatalog/

Best tuning and use of a car can only be achieved after full and proper servicing of the vehicle

IMO for most uses:

electronic ignition or better still fully new elec tronic dissy

a good battery

uprated starter motor

uprated alternator

electric cooling fan

better suspension bushes

Get all of the basic standard stuff right before even considering performance stuff

Performance quicly brings in the law of demishing returns - to go a lot faster/quicker more powerful it would be less expensive to buy a different car

I'm not one for bigger wheels and wider tyres but each to their own for road use I enjoy the 16" steering wheel and thin tyres is nicer for me and fun

In terms of imnprovement per ££, an 11/16 ARB has to be the best; followed by uprated pads green-stuff or 1144s, according to choice.

Then a decent LCB with RC-40 at the back.

Make sure you have good and reasonably new tyres.

Most important to replace the top outer trunnion bush with poly version.

I like the 1 & 3/$ SU; mine was on MG-Metro manifold.

If you are still wanting more, try a big-valve ported cylinder head; probably needs a re-worked dissy for slower advance rate (e.g. Aldon 100AYV)

You should be seeing 90 bhp / 85 lb-ft torque - or better.

Next it's an engine-out job for Kent 276 cam, or equivalent; might as well fit new shells, oil-pump, clutch and timing chain...

How about a 5-spd box whlist the engine's out? Transformed cruising ability.

Or forget tuning the A-series and go for Kseries conversion. I like the FL tele conversion all round, and RTL.

All the above depends on what you want to use the car for, how much time and ££ you are prepared to spend, and how long you will keep it.

IMO the dark side is good.

OTOH if I had a MK I, I would keep it standard.

As well upgrading (fitting quality tyres) think about brake pads well the whole braking system is work correctly after all if you go quicker you also need to STOP :)

these are not just avo's it is a complete redesign of the front suspention which transforms the car!

but first read Daniel's book (linked above)
and get the yellow A-series bible

Thats such a generalized question, it can only be ansewered by you.

I think you need to ask yourself several questions

1 how much money do I want to spend
2 how much time do want to spend
3 how advanced do I want it to be
4 how involved do I want to be be
5 Do I have the tools and the knowlege to do this
6 Is there a better, easier, cheaper way to get the same results
7 MOST important question DO not fluff over this one...

"Why do I want this modification, what does it mean to me"?

The answer to this question is what will sustain you when everything goes to he"LL" in a hand basket... There is no one answer, AND do NOT be afraid of the ansewer,, no matter what it is... think about this question rigerously, it is the base for everything you will do as a modification to the car

If its to impress a girl, if its to achive alfa status, if its to prove something, if its for racing, if its for show, if its to resell and make a few bucks, if its to excize an old demon, if its a child hood dream, It can be any reason big small intellegent stupid, It dosnt matter... Its the answer that belongs to you and only you, The reason does not matter to anyone else except you and you alone... If you know the aswerer to this question then you will know what modifications to make to the car. Lie, fool, dont acknowlede the power of this question. It will be at your own parrel, if you do you will end up with a car you didnt want or worse a pile of parts in the corner and a weak promise of tomarrow.

that said...

Books by ...
David stapeltons, David vizard, and google search of midget modifations will show you what can be done and how to do it. But only you will know the path and the goal.

Prop... I just watched yoda on starwars and was inspired

Yes the AVOs are just the damper and are contracted to a certain (spit) company

You can buy the whole package from MGOC or MOSS - and have a warranty

Fast - a relative term usually relative to lots of costs (plural) too
