I have had nothing but bad experience with MGBHive

The first eBay order was just cancelled, without a refund or any notification (MGA Radiator top hose)

A second order for the hose was fulfilled with something completely different and hugely inferior, they even changed the photo in the listing retrospectively after I complained, but of course eBay could see that, and I had to go over PayPal to get the refund.

For my (direct) third order (not realising it was the same outfit), nothing at all happened - literally. Nothing was charged or delivered apart from an order confirmation, then silence....

My advice would be to leave well alone...... just like the MG guy in Wrexham who charged for five chrome wire wheels but delivered four chrome and a painted one.

Give Jonathan Heap (JLH minors) a ring. He does decent deals on minilites (replicas) in thiat size, with tyres too if you need em.

Try Magic Midget, they also sell the strong and light Revolution wheel (UK made): http://www.magicmidget.co.uk/

The UK makers of Minators, KN wheels, went out of business last year. There have been concerns about wheel quality for non-UK made Minators/Minator copies.

You can still buy the real thing, rather than what Minators were inspired by - real Minilites:

there are some useful old threads in this website on wheel sizes and what fits.

It funny but I would pay the price of a set of new alloys for new rims on my original midget steel wheels. I know it technically possible but I can't find anyone to do it.
I would be looking for 6" rims on the original centres.
It is illegal to band them but not to change the entire rim, however it isn't a backstreet garage job and it is hard to find a wheel specialist who would do it without having to sell the whole car to pay for it!

"It is illegal to band them but not to change the entire rim, ---- "

Not so. I have a set of original steels, and when I finally get around to it, I'm going to get them banded.

There are quite a few places that do it, and do it well.

Here's just one of them. http://www.bandedsteelwheels.co.uk/

My understanding is that they are not road legal, they are used extensively by off roaders though.
Getting a new set of rims fitted to the existing centre is OK though.
The whole situation doesn't seem to be very clear and there is a lot of conflicting info about this out there.
Neckieman

interested to know what that understanding is based on - can you point at any relevant legislation?
David Smith

It's completely clear. Banding is legal. It's a myth spread by the worriers, that they aren't safe. This discussion has been on here numerous times, and is all over the internet on various boards.

But if you are worried, then sure, pay more to have them rimmed instead.

Edit. And as David just said. Where's the legislation?
Lawrence Slater

Definitely stick to the minator brand or genuine minilite brand Jake.

With the events you plan to do the others won't last long. Minator are proven even on the roughest of events.
