MG Midget and Sprite Technical - MG Midget Front Brake Upgrade

Hi,

Does anyone know if Metro calipers will fit straight on to a midget or could I also use MGB calipers.

Another alternative is Triumph Spitfire discs. Anyone know what calipers to use and what size shims between stub axle and steering arms?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Peter

AFAIK the hole spacing is different.

the Peter May 900 kit uses Spit discs and B calipers and it is ready to bolt-on with all the complex measuring and machining done for you (I don't use this kit - just read the info from Daniel's book...)

Peter, fitting metro 4 pots is covered in a couple of issues of the MASC magazine from around 2 years ago. I will check back and see which issue numbers it was.

There are books with this stuff in.

Think "That Book" has already been mentioned.... it's a damn good read btw!

I ve heard there is a book that talks about this...I wonder if danial 1320 has an insight on this book

I think the 4 pot (princesses) calipers are a direct fit replacement...the metro I dont think is and the B caliper is NOT ...for the B you need the spitfire rotor and a special spacer

if you go the mgb caliper you might also consider the brake pads for heavy duty v8 mgb caliper... its almost twice the size of the midget pad...and bigger then the standard.B pad by almost 40% yet will still fit the mgb caliper with a small.amount of filing a couple of edges off

I've wondered for a few years now can you still get Princess brakes readily now?

Peter,
In answer to your original question about 4 pot Metro calipers I said it had been covered in MASCot "about 2 years ago". Well, doesn't time fly! I have just spent the last couple of hours reading through back copies - yes, I get easily distracted! - and the topic was covered way back in the October and November issues, 2006!

I had thought that Matt (author of the MASCot articles) might have woken from his winter hibernation to respond to your question here. But I guess that although it has been mild the last few days, it is still only January.
Guy W

princess brakes are harder to find, but Hi-spec do an alloy 4 pot caliper on the same bolt pattern

Metro calipers need a bit of modding detailed in Matt's article, B calipers should bolt on but not necessarily line up with original discs.

Archive search for 'big brakes on the racer' throws up some interesting threads, and there's always 'that book' ;)

Hi all,

Thanks for all your help and info.
But where do I get "This Book" from?

I've got one of these

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Power-Midget-Sprite-Speedpro-Series/dp/1901295737/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357248842&sr=8-1

and also one of these

http://www.veloce.co.uk/shop/products/productDetail.php?prod_id=V4142&prod_group=Performance%20Tuning%20&%20Modification&

which has lovely colour photos in it.
Rob Armstrong

Peter, it's the book on Amazon we refer to.

Rob, that Veloce link doesn't work for me, goes to Home page.
David Smith

David,
copy and paste the link into your address box/thingy and it does get you there

This black one is the latest and most complete version.
(needles to say I also have all the older copys too and as soon there is a newer edition with even more info im buying that one too).
Excelent book that every midget/sprite owner should have.

Arie de Best

thags fhe copy I have also...Im not sure danial is going to do another...I hope so, but I got the sensation he may be done for the time being

books are tough

you know what would be a great.book ???

a collaberation of all the greats, where each writes his own chapter....now that would be cool.

hmmm...I bet I could be included on how to procrastinate...hahaha
