MG Midget and Sprite Technical - MG Metro Camshaft in a 948.
I'm going to put a spare 948cc engine together out of bits that I have laying around. I have Flat Top pistons so will hope to achieve in the region of 10.0:1 C/R and a decent 202 or 295 head.I also have a spare MG Metro camshaft and I wondered IF anyone had tried one in a small engine and if so, what results did you get? Mark.

In my old 1098 (10CC) engine it was fantastic with a 12G295 head. Great surge with no lumpy idle and it pulled throughout the rev range.

It might be a bit more cammy on the 948, due to capacity reduction - but it's the best production 'shaft for the Aseries. A

Mark. My frog is 948 to 998 + 60 (1046?) with 202 head. 88G229 cam and 1.25 SUs = 62BHP.

88G229, isn't that the old Cooper 997 cam? A superb camshaft in it's day and I believe still available! I have one or two cams on the shelf but as the MG Metro one is supposed to me Soooo good, I thought about using it in this engine. It's only a spare for one of the Frogs or A35 should I need one quickly and I'm just using up bits that I have laying around (except for bearings, rings etc...) Mark.

It used to be the specified midget cam for the MGOC race series. It worked very well in a 1275. It worked even better with 1.5 rockers and a Weber!

Looks like I'd better get the cutting axe into the Metro then..... Mark.

88G229 = Cooper 997. I think Kent or Piper grind them to order.

I have a MG Metro cam to put in a 998, I read good reports when I bought it.
