MG Midget and Sprite Technical - maniflow exhaust manifold

Anybody know if this will fit a standard exhaust system for a 1500 midget ?
D Stratton

Not if it's from an A Series engine (948, 1098 or 1275cc)

If i bought the correct manifold for a midget 1500 from maniflow would it fit a standard exhaust system ?
D Stratton

I have had excellent service from Maniflow over the years. They swiftly supplied a manifold & system to our base Gite in France when a friend who I was touring with needed a system on holiday. I have their systems on both my Sprites (948 & 1275) If you contact them they will be able to advise.

I bought a second hand Maniflow for my 1500 and the standard exhaust fitted up to it just fine. As I recall it was a bit tight getting the manifold down through to below the car. Then you'll be wanting K&Ns so it can breathe in as easily as it now breathes out, and then there's the carb needles to sort out....

. . . and then Pete Burgess rolling road set up

But before this you want the rest of the car full serviced and then tappets, points, timing and carbs set up – horse before cart

From Magic Midget site – http://www.magicmidget.co.uk/

‘Maniflow LCB manifold
Suitable for most states of tune up to @100bhp. Can use with standard 1275 Midget system, which fits INSIDE the exit pipe of the manifold.’

id already read that but mine is a 1500 midget system .

The car has been fully serviced , tappets , points and timing are done . Has refurbished twin hs4 carbs which have now been set up .
Rolling road is booked but i thought if im going to replace the manifold it makes more sense to do it before rolling road session
D Stratton

sorry I thought the 1500 and 1275 exhaust pipes were the same size but I can find nothing now to confirm or refute that

oh, I see Dave has confirmed 1500 fit Im not doing very well on the exhaust sorry

back to RR so you get the best out of it you can you might want to clean and gap or change your plugs before you go too and have your HT leads, dissy cap and rotor all in good condition

clean or new air filters of course

and bear in mind if they were done a while ago the tappets, points, timing and carbs might need resetting

good luck with the RR
Nigel Atkins

Yep, I'd definitely do it before Rolling Road as it will very likely throw the other things out of kilter.
