MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Konversions
Hi All, I am maybe being stuffed for my plan a as the casting that I need is not ready yet so... I am looking at plan b; a Konversion. Obviously the 1.8 but VVC or non-VVC bearing in mind that most of the Dave Andrews stuff seems to replace the VVC with solid lifters and stuff... Just fishing for ideas at the moment ;-)
Toby Anscombe
You should talk to DVA again, since the emerald now works the VVC things have change WRT stripping out the VVC. Feel free to take a trip up the M11 to cambs, I am going to be stripping down the car in a few weeks if you want to take a detailed look.
Will Munns
Toby, I have the new engine sitting all shiny in the back of the Renault just awaiting your old head. Just say the word and I'll be straight down (but you knew that anyway).
Same old Gary
Gary - bring it on monday and I'll bring the measuring stuff... Will - I might well do, I will give them another week or so but they have not had the castings back for plan a yet so am running out of time....
Toby Anscombe
I dont understand the first two posts at all. :-(
Steve 59 Frog
Perhaps the price of engine oil will go up after you have fitted the engine Gary, to compensate them for serious drop in sales.
Geoff Mears (1970 Midget)
Hi Toby, I have been toying with the idea of a K conversion and am only in Epping If you go ahead I would be grateful to know how you get on. I'll keep an eye on your posts. Cheers Jon

Jon - come down for a coffee or a beer and be social!! (otherwise I will be forced to come and see you..)
Toby Anscombe
Steve: I have a plan which has been progressing rather well right up until the point that someone who promised me a part has not come through with it yet. To be honest, I am rapidly loosing faith that they will come through with it as well; lots of I promise to call you and let you know and no phone call.. So, I have a plan B which involves a dead MGF, a chap called Dave Andrews (DVA) who is rather well known for K series work. K Series have the Variable Valve Cam which is a posh way of getting two power bands but up until recently you needed the Rover ECU to make it work. It looks like Emerald (Dave Walker who can tune anything, including a 27 litre 12 cyl SD1) has now managed to get an ECU that will work with the VVC. Does that sort of make sense?
Toby Anscombe
Toby You've got plenty of time to get the K installed and shaken out by Gaydon/50. The Konversion is the best thing that's happened to my midget so far; you'll not regret it. A
Anthony
Im doing a VVC Konversion and i think its the way to go...you can always change the VVC later for solid cam system and get the adavantage of the larger valves and ports... SHouldnt this be on the K-series forum?
Rob McGeown ( LMG 5K - '72 RWA)
"SHouldnt this be on the K-series forum? " No Carry on there later by all means but this issue involves the 7 port head production that Toby is being let down by Very much a proper Techy thing I think If it stayed in the K series forum we'd mostly miss it all, even I only go there every fortnight if the moon is setting and the bats flying... :-)
Bill
I too am not a fan of splitting things up, just means you need to visit more forums. I would expect most of us would agree that any subject concerning a Spridget, would be of interest to us all. Hell I have devoted my whole life to the A series engine but I read most posts on 1500 engines and all the engine change posts as well even those with K series engines. Where does it all end, should there be seperate boards for 1500s, frogeyes, toyota gearbox cars, ford gearbox cars, Supercharged cars, and not to forget the cars with big panel gaps!! :-))
Bob (robert) Midget Turbo
So Toby, when do you think you'll have the car running by?
Tarquin
Before your garage is finished ;-)
Toby Anscombe
That's a mighty long time!
Rich Amos (1330cc Blaze Red '72)
My car will be back on the road soon Toby, can I make a shake down run to yours and bring along your long lost rivnut kit?
Lee Reed
Of course you can Lee; I'd forgotten about that!
Toby Anscombe
Let me get this right Tpoby. Are you putting a K series engine into your midget project before you go to Gaydon? Do you have a full time job? :-))
Bob (robert) Midget Turbo
Slight change of tack Toby, but still on your progress, how are you getting on with the welder? Done all you need to do? Paul
Paulgertie
Toby, I will be out and about on sat with my midget failing that I was hoping to attend the next ace cafe meet.
J Lodge
Jon - I'm over in France for the weekend picking up some booze so wont be about but what is the chances of you making it into town on Monday for the CZ branch meet? Paul - I farmed it out to a nice chap in Gt Dunmow who sorted it for me in the interests of time...shame that work has gone nuts - the earliest I got home this week was 9.30 having left home at 6.30... Bob - Always an optimist!! All that is left to do is to finish the wiring and a couple of cosmetic bits, assuming that I dont drop a 7 port on top with some throttle bodies or a k series... Its not even March yet (just)!!
Toby Anscombe
About bloody time you succumbed to the inevitable! ;o)
