MG Midget and Sprite Technical - K Series Midget in hillclimbs

Hi all

Looks like someone on the Uphill Racers forum needs a bit of MG midget BBS advice on what rollcage spec they need to run a roadgoing K Series engined MG Midget in sprints and hillclimbs in the UK:

Hiya Mike. Thanks for the cross post! The person wishing clarification is me!

I've been running without the SL 'extra' front cage and door bars up till now, but MSUK as it is now have tightened up the classifications so it seems like I need all the gear.

If anyone's got any questions then shout, I've been in and out and up and down the regs left right and centre, and I've also got a handle on how the MSUK interpret things (incorrectly, in my opinion, but that's a different topic)

Don't know if it's the same there as here but our two local hills come under different regs
The track licence for each hill is the deciding factor
At one hill you can roll up in basically any car and get a run as long as it passes safety scruitineering--but at the other one open wheelers are out and any open top car has to have a full rally spec cage
Also there is the seatbelt issue on top of this
If you run a harness in an open top car then maximum rollover protection has to be a priority

Just a curious question-If you're running open top-With your harness and hans Are you using arm restraints---?
Before hans were about I used to run a Simpson 3" harness and a donut collar---which I still think is a better setup--plenty of survivors from big NASCA crashes using them---but now you have all these over the top crazy rules
I've just been helping a friend get his big sporty up to scratch for a meeting at the weekend, it hasn't run for about three years and the changes to the regs are unbelievable---It doesn't matter, the car deserves the best but seeing the car came off the track in fresh race form it has been an expensive little exercise just to get it ready

MSUK run things in the UK, and the amount of rules depends on what you're trying to enter. Engine swapped cars get categorised in a pretty high section with regards to safety kit.

Standard roadgoing is much easier!
