MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Interior Help Needed
I am at the end of an interior restoration on a 67 Sprite. I am having a difficult time with the door seals and I am more frustrated when I go to fit the door "check-strap"....the strap that prevents the door from going open too far. Should there be a space in the door felt where the check strap goes? I will not mention how much fun I am having attaching the door seal and the clips. I would appreciate any tricks/tips on installation. I did have an earlier post a few weeks ago, thought I had it but it appears that I am not grasping it. Any help is appreciated. -Steve |

Steven. No, there is no gap in the weatherstrip for the door check strap. As for the clips, bend a piece of brass strip in a U shape and leave enough to bend a handle at 90 degrees. Put the clip in the U, put it in place and hold down the door seal and give the tool a good tug to get it started. You might want to have a friend hold the weatherstrip down. Some grease will help keep the clip in place but I found it wasn't necessary. It just takes some perseverance but it isn't that bad. |

I bent a screwdriver tip into a U shape and wedged the clip in. I never tried the grease, but did use 'hot glue' to help hold the clip in the screwdriver till it was just under rhe lip in the door, When I pulled up on the clip the hot glue let go. Phil |

Thanks Clive on the check strap. The clips I am having difficulty with are the ones that hold the door seal on the seam where the door shuts on the body. (I am all set with the window seals, also fun.) My 74 midget door seal just pushes on, the 67 Sprite has clips and does not like to stay attached. -Steve |
