MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Indicator stalk questions

So I bought a new stalk to fix my indicator problems, only to find that it has been abysmally built, and the left indicator stopped working immediately!!!! The contact wire was bent at the wrong angle. I give in.

Anyway, that's not my main issue really. On the loom of the stalk, there's the big 'block' connector - fine, I've connected this with my main car loom - however there's also a solo wire with a spade socket on the end of it. What is this for? What does it connect to?

Rich, I think that may be an earth. When I bought a replacement one, there was a separate black earth wire, whereas the original had the earth connection fed through the multiblock.

Thanks guy, that's a good point..... it all seems to work absolutely fine though (aside from the crap indicator design), so I wonder what exactly it is earthing? IIRC, it's a purple wire, by the way. (I think).

IIRC purple is the horn, separate 'cos it previously was up the column into the steering wheel and the factory moved it to the indicator stalk without altering the main loom (I think).

IIRC mine has a wire that goes to a brass springy contact that rubs on the bottom of my steering wheel to form the horn circuit.

Moss book (page 97 in my copy) shows the horn spring bit attached to the indicator switch item 71 37H80651 - those indicator switches are expensive ! just seen the price !

Thanks a lot.... there's no horn on this one - I had the option of buying one with 'horn on stalk' but bought the one 'without', as my horn is a button on the dash.

And pricey? Yes. Rip off, and it was broken when I bought it as I said. Load of crap.

just had a quick look at mine ('71) and like Richard, it seems as though it's for the horn. If I disconnect it the horn doesn't work!
