MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Heater control cable query?

Hi all,
Ok - probably an easy question for you guys.
1275 midget Mk III RWA
There is no cable attached to the heater on / off valve on my cylinder head, and there is also NO cable pull / push button for it anywhere in the car. All I have is the on / off for the fan and the cable which opens the inlet for fresh air.
Am I missing this cable - if so , where SHOULD the push pull button be placed on the dash, and does anybody know the part number _ I checked Greggie's catalogue from Sussex Classic cars spares but can't find it.
Would a cable fom Minispares suffice as I know you can get them there.
Thanks all & thanks to everyone who has helped me sort out my rather nice MG RWA this year.

The heater hot water valve on your car would have been a manual screw down tap from under the bonnet.

Probably you have a mini or similar unit fitted.

As Richard has pointed out, your heater tap has been changed. As you wouldn't originally have had a cable to operate the tap, you can put it wherever you like.

A Mini cable would probably do the job, if it is long enough.

Colin,
a copy of the Driver's Handbook would have help you out here with its loads of info and clear illustrations including the heater tap and instruction on how to use it

Hi Colin, the cable you have is the only one fitted!
A brass valve on the back of the cylinder head, part number 88G588 with a screw top is the only control of the water flow.
Your heater flaps in each footwell and the airflow control, together with fan switch are all that control the heat.

on this BBS we were looking at photos of a Spridget for sale where someone had fitted the Mini type of valve to replace the original tap as shown in Tony's photo and you can get a conversion kit in America to do the same - so these conversions are not unknown or unusual

I expect even with the conversion the heat is either Off or Hot with very little if any difference between the two but it does save having to stop the car and lift the bonnet to either (switch on) allow the heat through or (switch off) prevent the heat coming through

Personally it doesn't bother me that you can't operate the heater tap from inside the car. I leave it on all year and find that closing off the air flap and shutting the footwell vents prevents the inside of the car from getting too warm. But then I live in Scotland...

Colin,

Moss USA offer a conversion kit which I posted last month with details installed on my car. Should be fairly easy to find in the archives. Here is a link to the kit.

On my car a previous owner just used a bonnet-pull cable mounted on the underside of the parcel shelf. Saves drilling the dash and fighting your way through the cables behind.

I've installed a tap to turn off the water to the heater, inside the car, just next to the steering column.

It stays on most of the time, but on those rare occasions that we do get warm weather, and when I want cool air around my legs, I can switch of the hot water without stopping the car.
