MG Midget and Sprite Technical - Fuel pump location
I am looking for some good pictures of the electric SU fuel pump installation in the MG midgets. I also need to know the year and model of the Midgets that used th electric vs mechanical pumps. I am trying to make up a pictorial essay of the original fuel pump location on various MG models. Pleas e-mail the pictures to me at the above address. Thank you - Dave

David - All of the Midget 1500s used the mechanical fuel pump, located low on the LH side of the engine, above the starter. -:G:-

Gryf - Not being a Midget expert, I was not sure which ones, if any, used the electric pumps, but tossed out the request in case any of them did (I seem to remember getting queries about the AUB 200 series electric SU pumps used in some of the Midgets). Cheers - Dave

Hi Dave, Is this the sort of thing you need? Mark ![]()
m Marston
Mark - That is real good. It would be better if the viewing range were a bit wider so the viewer knew where he/she was looking. Also, can you tell me what years or marks of Midget used the electric fuel pump? Thank you - Dave

Hi Dave, This is the only shot I have at moment. I understand that the setup in the picture was used by all years/models except the 1500s. My car is a 1275/rwa/gan5. Mark

Hi Dave, Found another!

Mark - That is great! I think that I can see that the pump is on the right side just forward of the rear axle. Thank you very much. Cheers - Dave

Dave, I have a 79 with the fuel pump located exactly where Mark Marstons picture shows it, right side forward of rear axle. Rik

Dave, I could be wrong, but I believe they were mechanical until the arrival of the 1275 engine. LaVerne

Nope, Mums mk2 Midget has an electric fuel pump as standard.

For what its worth, Moss shows the mechanical pump through the 1.75 main bearing 1098. Electric for the 2" main 1098 and all 1275, then mechanical for all 1500. USA models. LaVerne

Yes, Horler confirms this. Mk 2 GAN 3 Midgets and Mk 3 HAN 8 Sprites were the first to have an electric fuel pump. Tore

I believe the 1275 pump - and probably the 1098 - was AUF214.

Nick - Great photo. That looks like it could be one of the German clones of the SU pump. If so, you have a very good pump. Thank you. Thanks also to those of you who have sorted out which Midgets came with the electric pumps. Cheers - Dave

Hmm, the German pump that I have is so good that it floods the carbs and when they're not flooding, the mixture is all over the place. I'm refitting the original this weekend, now that I've cleaned the points!
