MG Midget and Sprite Technical - For Trev Mason

Hi Trev,
Saw your posting about the simonbbc electronic ignition & rev counter.
My Mk III midget rev counter was all over the place UNTIL I put the simonbbc system in...its fine now & works as it should- coincidence ? possibly , but who cares as it works OK.
I did buy a new coil, a new dizzy assembly , new plug leads & the electronics package all from simonbbc but the lot was only 90 odd and its fit & forget!

Hi Colin,
Thanks for the reply. However it doesn't really help me as I have a MkII Midget and it has the earlier tacho that I've heard doesn't work with these or any other electronic unit. One solution is to fit a later tacho but I don't really want to do that while the current one works OK, but I am keen to go down the electronic route.

Hi Trev,
Although mine is a MK III midget , it does have the earlier type of electronic tacho fitted.
My car was built in 1972 and apparently it was luck which tacho the car got when it was built......!

Hi Colin,
My tacho is an earlier one than yours as it was originally a positive earth one which I have changed to negative so no wiser. I think I will just bite the bullet and order one and see what happens.

Hi Trev. My car is a '65 Sprite which I have converted to neg earth, fitted an alternator and converted my tacho to neg earth. The tacho is the original, so it will be the same as yours. I have fitted a Pertronics ignition system with no problems. The car never misses a beat and I hadn't heard anything about incompatability so I just fitted it.

Thanks Bernie, that settles it then as my car is also a '65. I can't see any reason why it shouldn't work but just seem to remember reading somewhere once that they didn't work with electronic.
